Free radicals are formed when an element or molecule gains or looses an electron. These unpaired electrons are highly reactive and can become involved in chain reactions that can damage cell membranes, proteins and the nuclear DNA of cells. It is thought that free radical damage, over and above what the body’s natural metabolic processes can handle, is involved in the effects of everything from aging to cancer.
These free radicals are a normal by product of just the normal everyday biochemical processes required in the body to sustain life and are important in both health and disease processes. The body has a number of systems to help protect from this free radical damage, not the least of which is thought to be the natural antioxidants found in our diet. However, with modern refined food diets, increasing amounts of synthetic and not-so-natural substances added to food, the increased pace and stress of modern life, and the increasing number of individuals with disorders such as diabetes, it is likely we are all exposed to increasingly more oxidative stress.
We can all help manage this stress on the body by consuming a diet high in natural antioxidants, taking antioxidant vitamins and other antioxidant nutritional supplements, and monitoring how well our body handles this stress.
Our Free Radical Dipstream Check, manufactured in a US FDA and ISO certified facility in the United States, measures the levels of lipid peroxides, a major free radical found in the urine. Lipid peroxides are fats that have been damaged by the action of free radicals in the body. Excess lipid peroxides should not appear in the urine and the presence of them may indicate a need for increased antioxidants either in the diet or by nutritional supplementation.
Use our Free Radical Dipstream check to monitor your antioxidant status on a regular basis. Check your level in the privacy, comfort and security of your own home in a matter of minutes.
